Popular Sovereignty Popular sovereignty means the right of the people to rule themselves Popular sovereignty is expressed it’s strongest in our country through elections

Limited Government Article I of the Constitution limits the power government has over people The Bill of Rights also limits the government’s power Helps protect the rights of the minority

Checks and Balances A system used to prevent any one branch from becoming too powerful Under this system, each branch is able to check or limit the power of the other two branches

Federalism and Types of Power
Federalism: national and state government share power. Enumerated or Expressed powers: specific powers of national government Reserved powers: those are for the states Concurrent powers: shared between national and state government

Supremacy Clause Says that the Constitution and the national government are the law of the land In case of conflict between national and state government, national has higher authority
