This shows Maggie’s frustration as the men are supposed to go and work yet Alec has lain about all day and not done anything.
Her frustration is evident through the addition of the words “at least” which suggests that she expects very little help from the men in her life but she does expect them to play their part. John, her husband may not help around the house but he tries to earn money for the household. Alec is doing neither which causes her huge frustration.

Maggie often claims she is “sick” of aspects of her life. This suggests that the situation within her household never changes and it is always she who works the hardest with little or no help. This repetition symbolises her frustration.
The fact that she declares they could all go to “hell” is clearly a cry of frustration as Maggie loves her family dearly and works so hard to ensure that their lives are not a living hell. She is obviously at the end of her tether to shout this at them.
