10 THANKS FOR YOUR KIND ATTENTION
RINA and the owners and managers of the ships classed with RINA have always been very active and proactive on the environmental issues RINA put the first environmental notation, called EP, in its classification rules in This notation subsequently became ‘CLEAN’, and later ‘GREEN STAR’. Today 120 RINA classed vessels, including passenger ships, oil tankers, chemical tankers and gas carriers, have an environmental notation The new RINA environmental certification, the Green PLUS, was developed to keep the pace with the rapidly changing scenario and take into account The adoption of always stricter international regulations The continuous evolution of technology The concepts of design and operational energy conservation It is a voluntary additional class notation by means of which RINA acknowledges and awards those shipowners and operators who decide to make investments for a more environmentally friendly shipping To take into account the multitude of applicable solutions, our new notation is based on a non prescriptive, GOAL BASED rule, which targets eleven different sources of pollution and proposes a choice of reduction measures for each of them After my presentation my coleague Andrea Cogliolo, who has been one of the main developers of the rules on which the green + notation is based, will give you a more detailed description of the principles and requirements driving this new environmental standard THANKS FOR YOUR KIND ATTENTION
