2 Aims of the programme Support current organisational workforce plans with recruitment and retention through RtP Support AHP’s, HCS & SW attempting to Return to Practice with a smoother pathway (HCPC) Challenge the current concepts and views about AHP/HCS/SW wanting to RtP Encourage NHS organisations and HEI’s in England to support AHP/HCS/SW to RtP Share the learning across the health and social care community employing AHP/HCS/SW @NHS_HeatlthEdEng

5 East Midland project All NHS Trust and one PVI in the East Midlands supporting the project . 5 Universities regionally supporting the project 34 returnees have completed and are now on the register 7 Diagnostic Radiographers, 3 Dietitian , 13 OT’s, 7 Physiotherapist, 3 SLT, 1 Biomedical Scientist. (Average cost £1, per returnee) 17 further AHP’s are undertaking RtP Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, S+LT, Therapeutic Radiographers Overall 131 enquires Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Diagnostic/Therapeutic Radiographers, S+LT, Podiatrist, ODP, Dietician, Clinical Psychologist, Orthoptist and Biomedical Scientist Enquires EM = 75, Outside region 56. @NHS_HeatlthEdEng

6 EM Candidate Data 69 enquires (fit criteria)
44 starters (3 withdrawals) Gender: Female 92%, Male 8% Average age: 44 (oldest 62, Youngest 25) Average number years since qualified: 18 Average number years off the register: 7 (75% required to undertake min 60 days) Average number years since last practiced: 9 Average number of years clinical experience: 8 (59% Band 6 or above at point of leaving ) 83% now have employment in the EM

7 Doing things differently
Traditional Honorary Contract Match returnee to the vacancy in your trust. Actively recruiting for RTP post Recruit in to vacancies Band 5/6 (Band 4) Recruit to the Bank when on the register Encourage part time flexible working (7 day working) Use returnee to support students (win win win) Remember they are qualified, just not registered

Report to EM local Nurse Supply and Demand Board Visited local Trusts, AHP forums, AHP Leads Awareness raising Twitter / Facebook* HEE East Mids webpage Closed Facebook Group for returnees Mention in articles / journals AHP / CS professional bodies Support from Chief Allied Health Professions Officer NHS England and Professional Bodies @NHS_HeatlthEdEng

9 Next steps… Now a national programme to support AHP/HCS to return to the HCPC register. Total 300 by March 2019 80 completers by March 2018 Currently 110 plus enquires Started 50 Completers – 1 (Orthoptist) 220 completers by March 2019

10 Inclusion / Exclusion Inclusion
The program will support qualified AHP/HCS/SW living / working for service delivering NHS / Social Care in England looking to return to the HCPC register Previously registered with the HCPC or qualified in the UK, but have not registered with the HCPC in the last five years.. Exclusion Currently the program is not open to AHP/HCS/SW who have qualified abroad and have not been registered with the HCPC. You will need to follow the guidance for overseas registrants. Returnees looking to work outside England when returned to the HCPC register Excludes any individual that has a fitness to practice issue cited against them on the HCPC register.
