2. What Does It Mean?
In building construction, topping out, or topping off, is a ceremony held when the last beam is placed at the top of a building.
The final beam, along with a tree, represents one of the construction industry’s oldest customs.
A topping out ceremony is usually held to commemorate the event.

3. Eight of the final steel beams were signed by patients, families and staff.
The last beam to be placed on the building was signed just before being hoisted into position.
