What is a Container? Container - An object with its own attributes and characteristics that can hold components and/or content. Component - An object that holds content which is displayed on the website. Content- Data or information placed inside of a Component with which the end user can read and/or interact. Section - website, url, domain Page - games page, local page, music page Zones - columns Components - The WaterCooler, Today in the News Content – Text, Images, and Data that the end user sees

Sites, Environments, Locales
Site – This is the portal or website Locale – Related to the main portal or website. Locales can have the same content and resources as the main page or, share some or all of these in addition to having unique resources of its own. The Locale will have its own Language and Region code. Environment – Three basic stages of environment are: Dev or Development, QA or Quality Assurance, and Live. Each stage of approval moves objects or resources from the development environment, to QA, to Live.
20
Additional Terms Event - A term for scheduled content and component. For example: A component is to be shown from 1pm - 3pm. Layout - A combination to template, style sheets, and JavaScript files. Used to ensure conformity across a site using multiple pages. Synapps - Acronym for Synacor Platform Publishing System This is the overall package offered to a client that the CMS belongs to. Layout has come up a couple times when we’ve done some introductory training. We will talk about how to apply a layout today and how to create one tomorrow. Some folks have suggested thinking of the layout as the skin for the page. SPM we will refer to as Smart Targeting and eCommerce, and focus on the various pieces that make up SPM. Synapps is the overall umbrella for both the CMS tools and the SPM tools.

Page Manager There are many work flows or paths in CMS. We are going to focus on our favorite workflow which is through Page Manager. It is our favorite because you can pretty much do all content or editing activities within it – manage all components and content within it. We will show you other ways, but our hands on practice for editing functions will primarily within Page Manager
26
Page Manager Preview The Primary Workspace Note:
The CMS provides many paths to achieve the same task. We are going to show you the fastest – you may find a few preferred paths of your own. Additionally, the preferred workspace within Page Manager is Preview Mode.
27
Page Manager Preview The toggle edit button allows the user to see all of the components and content on the page that are available for edits/changes.
28
Page Manager Preview: Getting There
+ OR
29
Page Manager Toolbar Date/time fields + Preview Link allows the user to see the preview in a new window at various time frames. So when multiple events have been set up, the user can preview all of these. The events do not need to be approved for the view to work, though they do need to be approved for them to be published. Toggle Edit – Changes Preview from Page Mode to Edit Mode Add Page – Opens Add/Edit Window to Add a new page Delete Page – Deletes Current Page (Must send for approval) Send For Approval – Sends Current Page for Approval (Opens SFA Window)
