5 Lead-ins **Add context to your lead-in when possible.
3 main types Lead-ins Somebody says George explains to Lennie, “Evidence.” In Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men Candy says, “Evidence.” As Curley attacks him Lennie cries, “Evidence.” Sentence George displays true friendship to Lennie even in difficult moments: “Evidence.” Blended The men on the ranch have “Evidence.” **Add context to your lead-in when possible.

6 Lead-ins, cont. Citations -Citations should come AFTER the evidence.
-Include the author’s LAST name and page number -End punctuation should come AFTER the parentheses. -Example: Lead-in, “Evidence” (Steinbeck, p. 14). Transitions Words or phrases that join two ideas together. Transitions can also be a full sentence. Examples: again, although, besides, despite, even though, finally, first/second, in addition, however, on the other hand, in fact, in contrast
