1. " عن ابي قتادة رضي الله عنه قال :
Abu Qatada RAA reported that, ' Allah's Messenger SAAW, once was asked about fasting of Ashura; the 10th day of Muharram [the first month of the Islamic calendder]. He , SAAW replied, 'I do hope that Allah, the Almighty would abolish the sins of the previous year (Because of fasting it)' – Muslim –

سئل النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم عن صيا م يوم عاشوراء فقال :
إني احتسب على الله ان يكفر السنة التى قبله " رواه مسلم
The best of manners of fasting Ashura:
Most perfect : to fast a day before and a day after it.
Next in perfection: to fast the 9th and 10th of muharram.
Next in perfection: to fast 10th day of muharram alone.
Zad-ul-M'aad, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah
مراتب صيام يوم عاشوراء :
اكملها : ان يصوم قبله يوم وبعده يوم
ويلي ذلك : ان يصوم التاسع والعاشر.
ويلي ذلك : إفراد العاشر وحده بالصوم.
