2 Key Stage One National Curriculum Assessments
Information and guidance on the expectations for 2017/18 Charlotte

3 Assessment and Reporting
Year 2 children are assessed in reading, writing, grammar, spelling, maths and science. They are assessed in two ways – tests and teacher assessment. The tests are to inform teacher assessment as in previous years. Teacher assessment is reported to the Local Authority at the end of June. Moderation may occur to ensure consistency of data. Charlotte

4 Teacher assessments We assess the children in a variety of ways throughout the year, and these assessments are what we report at the end of the year. The SAT assessments support our own ongoing assessments, but are not used as the only evidence of your child’s abilities. If your child does not achieve as normal during the SAT assessments it is not something to worry about. Your child will have demonstrated evidence as Emerging, Expected or Exceeding in each area throughout the year. Both SAT assessments and teacher assessments results will be shared with you at the end of the year using these terms. Charlotte

5 Administering the test

27 Ensure your child has the best possible attendance at school.
How to help your child First and foremost, support and reassure your child that there is nothing to worry about and that they should always just try their best. Praise and encourage! Ensure your child has the best possible attendance at school. Support your child with any homework tasks. Reading, spelling and arithmetic (e.g. times tables) are always good to practise. Talk to your child about what they have learnt at school and what book(s) they are reading (the character, the plot, their opinion). Make sure your child has a good sleep and healthy breakfast every morning! Charlotte
