Purpose The Motorcycle Safety Programs Committee is responsible for projects and activities relating to: State motorcycle safety programs. Rider education and training. Life-long learning. Research and data collection.

Goals and Objectives For 2014-2015:
Guidelines for Establishing State Motorcycle Safety Coalitions Promising Practices for State Quality Assurance Programs Model National Standards for Entry-Level Rider Training Additional projects or activities will be identified for 2015

Responsibilities Responsibilities of Committee Members include:
Representing the interests of the SMSA members as a whole. Representing the interest of the membership category represented. Participating in conference calls/web meetings of the committee. Identifying possible SMSA projects and activities.

Assisting in overseeing project and activity expectations. Participating in an annual meeting of the committee in conjunction with the annual SMSA conference (either prior to or post conference) if attending. Contacting members represented to solicit input and feedback on projects and activities. Providing feedback to SMSA staff on projects and activity deliverables.

Responsibilities of Executive Committee and Staff include: Provide representatives with up-to-date membership contact information. Scheduling conference calls / web meetings. Minutes from conference calls / web meetings. Support the activities of the committee. Report activities to the SMSA Executive Committee. Providing direction and feedback Planning and development tasks – in consultation with chair

Deliverables Guidelines for Establishing State Motorcycle Safety Coalitions See Project Definition Report Promising Practices for State Quality Assurance Programs Model National Standards for Entry-Level Rider Training Educate and encourage SMSA members to support the NHTSA Model National Standards for Entry-Level Motorcycle Rider Training through webinars and conferences.

Deliverables, cont. Encourage and assist, as needed, SMSA members in the adoption of the Standards and encourage states to compare the Standards with their program. Encourage and assist, as needed, SMSA Members to become accredited. Track and report on the SMSA website accredited rider training programs. Collaborate with national partners and stakeholders on future revisions and enhancements to the standards.

This document will assist members with: identifying common goals understanding different approaches and perspectives inventorying group resources creating alliances and joint solutions recognizing the differences in thinking, perceptions and language

Information pertaining to coalitions was requested from the states in March. Questionnaire was re-sent in May. 23 responses. Finalized September 2014. Delivered at 2014 SMSA Symposium (September 25-27, 2014).
