Brainstorm On the whiteboard, let’s brainstorm different categories under which people might identify.

Your Task Take four sticky notes and pick four categories we have listed on the board. On each sticky note, write how you identify according to those four categories. You do not need to write your name, this should be anonymous. Be as honest as you feel comfortable being.

Are you surprised by anything on our classroom’s mosaic? Why or why not? Did you learn anything about your classmates from this activity? Knowing what you now do about the kind of diversity in the class, how will you make sure that you contribute to making our classroom a safe space?

We studied identity at the beginning of the year – why have we revisited this concept (why are we talking about it again)? Were you surprised by any of your classmates’ responses? If so, what and why? Why is it important to be aware of the diversity of our classroom? Why was this activity important for us to do before starting our unit about Human Rights?
