4 Monarchy Ruled by one (Absolute) King or Queen
(is hereditary and noble) Make all decisions/laws Ex. King Henry VIII Ex. King of Saudi Arabia

5 Constitutional Monarchy
King or Queen is a figure head Only is there for ceremony or tradition There is an elected body such as Parliament and a Primer Minister that follow the rules that are written in the constitution Ex. Queen Elizabeth II of England

6 Dictatorship A strong central government Ruled by one
Believes society is more important than the individual Ex. Adolf Hitler of Germany Ex. Joseph Stalin of Russia

7 Theocracy Ruled by god or religious leaders such as the clergy
Power given by God Can be 1 or few rulers Ex. Pope – Roman Catholic Church During the Middle Ages Ex. Iran – Islamic Fundamentalists

8 Republic Ruled by elected representatives
People have certain powers (vote) Usually bound by a constitution Ex. USA- Constitutional Republic (Democratic)

9 Democracy (Direct) Government where all people vote on all issues
Ex. Early civilizations / Tribes Ex. School Clubs

10 Fascism Ruled by one individual
Usually takes control by military force Strong sense of national pride Ex. Mussolini- Italy during WWII Ex. Chaing Kia-Shek- Republic of China

11 Oligarchy Ruled by a few elites that are self appointed
Not hereditary and not noble Ex. Sparta – Had 2 consuls and officials that ruled

12 Aristocracy Ruled by a few individuals of nobility or high rank
Hereditary & wealth Ex. Russian Czar Nicholas II

13 Totalitarianism Ruled by one individual by force; people have no say; rulers have total control Ex. Fidel Castro of Cuba

14 Democracy rule is based on individual rights and freedoms of the people Right to vote, free speech, free religion, etc. Ex. The USA is a Representative Democracy.

15 Anarchy The absence of government
People must make decisions that are best

16 Vocabulary Posters You need to choose one word. Create a poster.
Each should include a definition, the word, a picture, a sentence, and an example. Should be colorful and neat! Do your best!
