16 A Survivor Story Personal Narrative
The night it started to pour down I wasn't home with my parents, I was at my friend Jacob's house with the rest of my friends. I received a message from my mom saying water got inside the house. At this point, I was panicking knowing there was no way home. I went to sleep not knowing if my parents were home or even alive. I was desperate just to get a glimpse of my house. [The] next day, me and two other guys hopped in the truck with my friend and tried to get as close to [his] house as we could. We got two miles away and walked home with water up to our [chests]. As soon as we got home, we pulled out two kayaks and took them to the Main Street because we saw a lot of kids, animals, and old people who needed help. A Survivor Story Personal Narrative

I was trying to call my dad all day because I was worried about my house more than anything, and once he answered, he said, 'Don't go home,' and before I can ask why he [said], 'You'll be going home to nothing.' Once I heard that, I didn't know what to do but cry. All [of] my things were gone. I was in disbelief. I was literally asking everyone I walked by if they seen how flooded [my street] was and they all told me the same [thing], but I didn't want to believe them. It was truly heartbreaking to see my home flooded. I tried getting all I could of house, like my [dad's] medicine and clothes for my nephews, and as I was walking out, I [saw] my parents and I started crying out of happiness. I think people in Houston need hope and each other and reassurance that this is all going to get better sooner or later. Having to start all over worries me the most. Having to get new cars, to repair my house...it's going to take months for my life to be normal again, and that scares me the most. I'm not worried about my clothes or anything. I'm giving that to people who lost everything and can't afford a thing." — Kevin C. A Survivor Story Personal Narrative cont…
