Secured funding for GLTP (R 40m) Translocated game to Mozambique (1041) GEF Trust Fund Agreement signed(Maloti-Drakensberg) Published the Protected Areas and Biodiversity Bill for public comment

ACHIEVEMENTS 2002/03 Land acquisition by SanParks – R 8m
Community based natural resource management (CBNRM) guidelines developed Obtained approval from CITES for once off sale of ivory stock pile Submission of Mapungubwe and Cape Floristic Region nomination files

PRIORITIES FOR 03/04 Promulgamation of Biodiversity and Protected areas bills and the development of regulations Continue with work on 5 TFCAs – Prioritise the signing of the Ais-ais Treaty this year and ensure the implementation of infrastructure projects at KNP (R40m)

PRIORITIES FOR 03/04 Expansion of Parks system:
Pondoland Park, Blyde Canyon Park, Amalgamation of Golden Gate and Qwaqwa National Park; Acquisition of land and managing the process of transfer of state forests to SanParks (deproclamation, staff and assets transfer,etc)

PRIORITIES FOR 03/04 Submit nomination files to WHC
Develop National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (CBD, Ch 3 of BB) Finalise the National Action Plan on Desertification (Draft country framework) Pilot CBNRM guidelines in 3 National Parks (working with SanParks) 80% of CITES permits issued electronically (SACIP)
