We call words that have similar meanings
SYNONYMS These are words that have similar meanings. hurl >>>>>>>>> toss terrify >>>>>> frighten destroy >>>>>> harm hard >>>>>> difficult sleepy >>>>>>> drowsy rich >>>>>>>> wealthy Review quickly. Talk about that we have learned about using the stronger word to show more emotion/action. You can also talk about how using the stronger words improves our writing.

Shades of Meaning Words can mean many things. Even words that are alike can mean something a little different. It is important to know the difference between words.

You can complete this as a whole group or let students complete on their own. Have them think of another word to go in the place of the underlined word in the sentence.
