2
Goal Extending previous project in order to implement a fully functioning wireless sensor network based on the WirelessHART standard Picture of Kårstø, Rogaland
3
Motivation Sensor networks at Statoil's oil and gas installations are currently using wired solutions (HART) 40+ field facilities 8 land facilities 2193 km cable on the natural gas facility “Ormen Lange” Installation cost per meter cable ≈ 75,000 NOK WirelessHART is not approved by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) ??? Need more info here or don’t mention it at all Wishes to explore the possibility of using wireless solutions, initiative from SINTEF, Statoil, ABB and Kongsberg Maritime to create acceptance for wireless solutions Talk about the picture, that there are sensors scattered all around the platform. “Ormen Lange” Natural gas Subsea installation ??? (If so, why are we talking about wireless at all !?) Photo: Øyvind Hagen / Statoil
4
Overview A simple WirelessHART network consists of the following components Network Controller Gateway Sensor nodes Talk generally about WirelessHART, explain the different components briefly. Also talk about how existing HART equiment can be hooked up to the wireless nodes.
5
Task Understand, extend and improve previous work Focus on reliability
The sensors nodes need to meet certain reliability standards to be approved Handle redundancy in case of single node failure
6
Challenges Making sure packets arrive safely and quickly
Time-synchronization between nodes Routing 3 December 2018
