The Cherokee Nation After all of the development of the Cherokee People, it still wasn’t enough Americans wanted the land that the Cherokee people had Whether by treaties or by force the Native populations were being pushed west The final straw came when something very valuable was found

Gold Rush Dahlonega 1828 Gold has always been a valuable resource
Benjamin Parks apparently went deer hunting and tripped on a gold nugget North Georgia was already Cherokee land but not for long Soon thousands of Whites settled the land without permission They wanted the Cherokee people out!!

Worchester vs. Georgia A missionary named Samuel Worchester lived among the Cherokee people He was arrested and sent prison for doing so Cherokees hired lawyers on his behalf and ultimately the case went to the supreme court The supreme court (Chief John Marshall) said this was horrible and said it was unconstitutional to treat people this way Eventually Worchester was released by Governor Wilson Lumpkin

Andrew Jackson Started off fighting military battles against the Creeks like the battle of Horseshoe bend during Red stick war Later became President but held his negative opinion of the Native people and made sure as much land was taken from them as possible Major impact was that he signed the Indian Removal Act of 1830

John Marshall and Trail of Tears
Chief John Marshall and many others supported the independence of the Cherokee Nation Ultimately Jackson and many like him led to Indian removal act of 1830 and then the treaty of New Echota in 1835 which moved all Cherokee out of the southeast Thus the trail of tears began in 1838 where nearly 5000 Native populations died on the way to Oklahoma
