7 Easily Expand the Reach of Existing Electronic Access Control Systems
Wired Access Control Door Aperio Enabled Door Aperio Technology allows facilities to secure additional doors by leveraging your existing access control system. It increases the security and accountability of your building and its occupants without the expense or hassle of traditional access control. The illustration you see here shows the impact that this solution can have on the overall security of a facility. While wired access control is still recommended for certain openings, wireless technology like Aperio is ideal for adding access control to medium security doors.

8 Traditional EAC Topology
Traditional access control requires complex wiring around the door, including wiring through the frame regardless of the type of locking device in use. This can be extremely costly and in some cases not possible due to building construction or historical considerations.

9 Aperio™ System Topology
This diagram shows the topology of Aperio. The system is made up of three main components – the EAC infrastructure, the Aperio hub and the Aperio enabled lockset. The hub connects to the EAC system either via RS-485 for use with approved access control partner systems or via Wiegand when used with legacy systems or if no partner systems are in place. The wiring that has been eliminated in this topology is typically the most expensive and time consuming to put in place during an EAC lock installation.

10 Aperio™ System Topology
This diagram shows the Aperio topology with a Mercury based EAC system. The system is made up of three main components – the EAC infrastructure, the Aperio hub and the Aperio enabled lockset. The hub connects to the Mercury controller via RS-485 wiring. Again, the wiring that has been eliminated is typically the most expensive and time consuming part of an EAC lock installation.

11 Sargent Profile Series v.N2
Hardware Features SARGENT Grade 1 hardware Mortise lock Cylindrical lock Exit device (mortise, rim) 14 Finishes 49+ decorative levers Cylinder override Compatible with the majority of cylinders, including SARGENT patented high security cylinders The SARGENT Profile Series v.N2 is built on Sargent Grade 1 hardware, and is available in: 8200 Series mortise lock 10 Line cylindrical lock 80 Series exit device It is available in 14 different finishes and over 49 decorative levers on the mortise lock and exit device. The N2 also has a wide variety of cylinder options to choose from, including SARGENT patented high security cylinders as well as compatibility with many customers’ existing key systems.

12 Profile Series v.N2 Access Control Features Aperio based
80,000 access events using six AA batteries AES 128-bit encryption Available with HID® 125 kHz prox or MHz iCLASS® reader Full iCLASS authentication Max users? Max schedules? Max events? All decisions are made by the EAC system Aperio-enabled locks are bound only by the limits of the system Alarms? Provides Door Position, REX, Tamper, and Low Battery as signals to the EAC system The Access Control features of the v.N2 are also very important considerations. The Controller provides 80,000 activations – an activation can be a card read, a rex, a DPS state change, etc. 80,000 activations in typical use will provide at least a year of battery life. The lock and the hub communicate via an AES 128 encrypted link. The unique AES key is generated for each site. The Profile Series v.N2 is available with HID® 125 kHz prox or MHz iCLASS® reader. For iCLASS, the reader reads the application area of the iCLASS credential, which is the secure area. This is not a CSN read. Please note at this time, there is no support for CSN reads of other smart card types. Many times people give information related to how many users a lockset can hold. In this case, because all decisions are made by the EAC system, the lock is limited only by the system to which it is connected. Also, by providing the traditional contact information, users can configure an Aperio opening in much the same way they configure a traditional opening today.

13 Aperio Hub Specifications
Wireless Communication IEEE (2.4 GHz) Wireless Range 45 Feet / 15 Meters EAC Communication RS-485 Wiegand (Q2 2011) Power 8 – 24vdc Security AES 128 Capacity RS to 1 RS to 8 Wiegand 1 to 1 The Aperio hub utilizes IEEE – this is the standard that Zigbee, and many other low power frequencies are based on. Because it uses a shorter range, site surveying is simple – 45 feet and two walls between the hub and a lock are the only factors an installer needs to consider. Multiple input powers and communication standards allow for simple integration into existing infrastructure. The hub is available in two different capacities: 1 to 1 – A lock is paired to a hub; if you had 8 locks you would need 8 hubs 1 to 8 – more than one lock can be paired with a hub – meaning if you had 6 locks – all 6 locks could use with one hub if they were within 45 feet of it.

14 Mercury Hub Information
Aperio hubs are available in a Mercury-powered version 1 to 1 configuration Mercury hubs are only available directly from approved access control partners Easy integration with Mercury- based systems Hubs are configured and setup just like a standard Mercury panel Simple training and deployment for integrators Mercury hubs are available for simple integration into Mercury based systems. Please note – the hubs are specific to the access control partner. If the access control partner does not sell the Aperio hubs, there is no way to obtain a compatible hub for that system. On a Mercury based system, the hub will set up and be discovered in the same way as an MR50.

15 Installation Process Identify EAC panel with capacity
If none available, install new panel Determine placement for Aperio hub 45’ line of sight Run wire from EAC panel to hub Address and configure hub Install Aperio hardware Pair Aperio hardware and hub This step may be done already if 1:1, but is always required for 1:8 Verify connectivity through EAC interface Done! These are the simple steps required for installing the v.N2: Identify EAC panel with capacity. If none available, install new panel Capacity means an available 485 port and that it has room for additional readers, IE 16 reader controller, without 16 readers already connected. Determine placement for Aperio hub (must be with 45’ line of sight, with no more than two standard commercial walls between the lock and hub) Run wire from EAC panel to hub Address and configure hub Addressing and configuration is covered during the CI class as well as in the hub instruction manuals. Install Aperio hardware Pair Aperio hardware and hub (pairing is the process of joining a aperio device and the hub – this sets up the secure communication between the devices.) This step may be done already if 1:1, but is always required for 1:8 Verify connectivity through EAC interface Done!
