2 There are 4 main landforms in the United States
piedmont •isthmus peninsula •plateau Specific Landforms: Island of Hispaniola & the Isthmus of Panama

3 Piedmont Region of valleys and hills on the eastern side of the Appalachian Mountains It is between the Appalachian Mountains and Coastal Plains Begins in New Jersey and extends to Alabama. Piedmont means high lands at the base of a mountain

4 Peninsula Piece of land almost surrounded by water or extending far out into the water Florida, Alaska, and Michigan have peninsulas In Latin it means “almost” and “island”

5 Isthmus This is a narrow strip of land that connects two large areas of land mass In 1513, Balboa and other explorers made their way West across the Isthmus of Panama which connects North and South America

6 Plateau A plain in the mountains or height considerably above sea level An area of flat land that is higher than the land around it
