Working Packages dealing with operational verification: deleting all these operational Packages from WG5 in one year. Focus our commitments on NEW developments
delivery of verification results (each season) to the COSMO website will start => definition of common "LM" problems/scores (master page in verification website)
WP ‘Verification of  aLMo precipitation forecast using Radar composite network‘: no new developments this year; Andrea Rossa leaves MeteoSwiss
-> look to other institutions for radar verification (Oberto/Piedmont, Lenz/DWD, IMGW/Linkowska, Starosta [in future])
WP ‘Common Verification Package at ECMWF’: open question: does UGM have enough capacity to work alone on this Package
(-> shared codes for special aspects ?)

Verification of new physics schemes (from WG1-3) on predefined case studies: NEW WP / MeteoSwiss: Kaufmann (SYNOP), Piedmont?: Mercogliano
Workshop with WG3:overview of links physics <-> diagnostics <-> verification; Verification of near surface boundary layer processes (profiles, turbulent processes, soil moisture, fluxes); conditional verification; selection of test cases / test periods
Put on the website the rules and scores that each country should use (gridpoint/obs correspondance, season definition, correction for height, scores, ….)
Put on the website the list of case studies (defined in earlier years)

verification on full domain with all available (hourly) SYNOPs, TEMPs
representativity of observations & model
conditional verification
weather-type dependant verification
verification with non-GTS data (raingauges, …: -> gridded values of obs)
verification with remote sensing data: radars, METEOSAT, GPS
near-surface boundary values (towers: fluxes, radiation budgets)

6. Possible / Proposed New Packages in 2005:
Verification of LM on higher resolution, i.e. LMK, aLMo/2.2,..
DWD has already started with LMK verification
new verification methods (probabilistic, CRA, object-oriented, fuzzy logic, scale separation, …)
U. Damrath asks for use of CRA-software(IDL) inside COSMO (Piedmont raingauges, MeteoSwiss/radars)
Verification of the assimilation cycle: DWD with raingauge network of COSMO and TEMPs and MeteoSwiss for SYNOPs
Guidelines for the forecasters (together with WG4): circulation of draft version to all WG5-countries
