3 Problem: Making friends?
Let’s Review Main Characters: Dyamonde and Free Problem: Making friends? We know in Dyamode Daniel, the main characters are Dyamonde and Free and we think the problem in the book will be about making friends. We know Dyamonde was struggling to make friends in the first chapter.

4 Actions: Things characters do Dialogue: Words characters say
Thoughts: A character’s thinking, often written using italics To get to know characters, we pay attention to the a character’s actions, or the things characters do. Dialogue, the words that characters say outloud to each other. And, character’s thoughts. Often, an author will signal a character’s thoughts with italics or the author will state a character is thinking something.

5 Let’s Core Lesson One Tuesday- it was chicken nugget day, to be exact-Dyamonde was sitting with the three T’s when Free stomped into the lunchroom, fists clenched, not looking where he was going-again. He bumped into Jordan, this tiny third-grader, and mumbled, “Out of my way, squirt.” Poor Jordan shook so hard he dropped his tray. Free just kept going, got his own lunch and slammed the tray down on a nearby table. That’s it, thought Dyamonde. I’m tired of seeing that boy scare the living daylights out of everybody insight. Here is an example of where we have action, for example, He bumped into Jorndan. Dialogue, where Free said “out of my way, squirt” to Jordan. And, we have a character’s thoughts- That’s it, thought Dyamonde.

Now, I’m going to ask myself- What does this show me about Free?

The way Free is talking to Jordan tells me he is not very nice to other kids.

Next, I noticed there are interesting thoughts on this page from Dyamonde. She is thinking about Free, so I am going to ask myself, What does this show me about Free?

9 So, in this lesson, you learned to first pause after reading interesting actions, thoughts, or words. Next, you can ask yourself: What does this show me about the character? And finally, you can jot your ideas on a sticky note by saying “This characters is a person who..”

10 LearnZillion Notes: --This is the lesson conclusion. On this slide you’ll change your original lesson objective to past tense and explain what the student has just learned. You can retype it here or you can delete the text on this slide and then just copy and paste the text box from the original Lesson Objective slide and then edit it to make it past tense!

11 LearnZillion Notes: --The “Guided Practice” should include an example that targets the skill that was used in the Core Lesson. Use the same vocabulary and process you used in the original lesson.
