1 States of matter pt 2

2 What do you think Substance X’s state of matter?
From the lab What do you think Substance X’s state of matter?

3 List 3 objects you are not sure they are solid or liquid.
What state of matter is milk? What state of matter is tooth paste? What state of matter is jello?

4 Solids, Liquids, gases “Colloids” Substate of Matter
In Between states that fall in the lines of two states or more Think metalloids: metals with properties of nonmetals Solids, Liquids, gases “Colloids”

5 Colloids A non crystal substance of large molecules and atoms dispersed through a second substance. The particles never settle and can not be separated out by ordinary filtering or centrifuging.

6 Gels Jelly like substance that exhibits no flow while in a steady state. They are fluid and mostly liquid but behave like solids due to its atoms linked like solids

7 Foam When gas is trapped in a liquid or solid.
Gas forms dense pockets within the liquid or solid defining its shape. Open pocket = bath bubbles / sponges Closed pocket: camping foam mat, nerf darts

8 Emulsions When two unmixable liquids are mixed together.
They do not stay that way but while “Mixed” they form an emulsion This happens because half the molecules in the liquid mix with water, the other can’t mix with water.

9 Sols Small solid particles immersed in a liquid medium.
Blood has small solid particles made of atoms in it Paint has particles that make the color

10 What do you think Substance X’s state of matter?
From the lab What do you think Substance X’s state of matter? Now write your conclusion.
