(A) Macrophage staining with a CD11b monoclonal antibody shows accumulation of macrophages in the plaque of a uremic apo-E −/− mouse 12 wk after induction of renal failure. Insert: negative control (no specific primary antibody). (B) Staining for nitrotyrosine with an anti-nitrotyrosine antibody in the plaque of a uremic apo-E −/− mouse. Strong staining for nitrotyrosine is predominantly localized within the core of the plaque. Insert: staining for nitrotyrosine in arterial wall with normal histology from a uremic apo-E −/− mouse.
