3 El Camino Inca A four-day hike over 30 miles of trail
Some of the trail passes through mountains using tunnels Tour guides are mandatory Number of hikers are limited to 500 per day (about 200 tourists and 300 guides) Peak season is June-August By May, all reservations are booked During the winter, rain storms can wash out the trail The trail is closed for the month of February for cleaning and maintenance

6 El tercer día Begins with climbing another pass to see the ruins of Runkuracay Means “Pile of Ruins” A circular walled complex thought to be a resting station for couriers traveling along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu Contains an area for sleeping and a stable for llamas

Means “Dominant Town” Sits on the top of a sheer cliff Phuyupatamarca Means “Town in the Clouds” Contains stone baths Third day ends with Wiñay Wayna Means “Forever Young” Museum and garden with the greatest variety of native orchids in the world

8 El cuarto día Climbing to Intipunku Means “Sun Gate”
The entrance to Machu Picchu It is an easy and enjoyable hike to the city from this entrance

9 Machu Picchu Hidden in the Andes Mountains
