For any numbers a, b, c and d:

and denominators. Simplify.

Find a common factor of one numerator and one denominator. The GCF of 4 and 8 is 4. Simplify by dividing both the numerator and denominator by 4. Multiply the numerator and denominator.

7 Example 3 Sandeep had cup of yogurt. She put of the yogurt into a smoothie. What fraction of a cup of yogurt did she use in the smoothie? Write the problem. Divide 4 and 8 by 4. Divide 3 and 9 by 3. Multiply. Sandeep put cup of yogurt in her smoothie.
