A Collection of WWII Paintings
“They Drew Fire”

“They Drew Fire” At various times throughout this unit, we’ll be analyzing paintings done by artists that were imbedded in the field during WWII.

“They Drew Fire” You should keep these daily journals together and have them each day in class. Eventually they will be turned in together for a fairly large grade based mainly on effort.

“They Drew Fire” For each of the paintings, you should do two things in your analysis: Explain – in detail – what the painting/drawing looks like. What are you seeing? How does the painting make you feel? What do you think the artist’s intention was in presenting the scene in the way he did? Explain.

“They Drew Fire” As you do your daily journal/ painting analysis, organize it the following way. Put the title of the painting and the date that we viewed it in class. Skip lines between journal entries to make it clear what painting you’re responding to.
