4 GEOSS Interoperability Arrangements - From the GEOSS 10 Year Plan Reference Document -
Interoperability through open interfaces Interoperability specifications agreed to among contributing systems Access to data and information through service interfaces Open standards and intellectual property rights GEOSS adopting standards; agreed upon by consensus, preference to formal international standards GEOSS will not require commercial or proprietary standards Multiple software implementations compliant with the open standards should exist Goal is that at least one of the implementations should be available to all implementers "royalty-free"

5 Architecture Implementation Pilot
AIP-1  Kickoff: Jun 2007; Alpha operations Nov 2007; Arch Workshop Feb 2008 "Core" Architecture as initial GCI AIP-2 Kickoff Sep 2008; demo ISRSE May 2009; Beta operations Sep 2009 Refined GCI supported transition to operations AIP-3 Kickoff Mar 2010; results to Beijing Plenary; Complete Feb 2011 SBA Scenarios; Piloted Broker and Processing capabilities GEOSS Architecture Progress video for Beijing Ministerial - link AIP-4 Kickoff May 2011; results to Istanbul Plenary; Complete Dec 2011 Increased access to priority EO data AIP-5 Kickoff May 2012; results to Brazil Plenary; Complete Mar 2013 SBA application scenarios; GCI research AIP-6 Kickoff March 2013; results to Ministerial; Complete 2014 Ministerial Showcases Agile development is a set of iterations. Initial phases, iterations created discovery – GCI Current and next phases focus on Access to Data

8 Workshop Objectives Meet the GEO aim of interoperability of existing and new systems that provide Earth observations Build on prior GEO activities including: GCI Architecture Workshop 2008 SIF Interoperability Workshops GEO Sensor Web Workshops Support similar discussions for GEOSS Model Web These activities are elements of GEO Task IN-05 "GEOSS Design and Interoperability".

9 Task IN-05: GEOSS Design and Interoperability
IN-05 Priority Action: develop a Technical Design of GEOSS and Contributed Resources "GEOSS architecture beyond GCI”  registries, information types, predictive models, sensor webs, software/applications, and data, system interfaces, and services Confirm architecture through value-added deployments with SBAs E.g. Showcases for EO Ministerial Future Products Workshop as major contribution to IN-05 objectives
