4 TACE Center: Region IV, a project of the Burton Blatt Institute. Funded by RSA Grant # H264A080021. © 2013 How does financial literacy fit in vocational rehabilitation? It is not our job to assist with money matters; our focus is on careers. Besides, I did not go to school to become a financial advisor. A VR counselor already has too much to do. We cannot be expected to add financial literacy into counseling and guidance. Besides, I can hardly keep track of my own checkbook. Some of our clients are deeply in debt, some are unbanked, some do not understand the basics about money and working (savings, interest rates, taxes, credit cards rates, work incentives). This lack of knowledge impacts how much a person thinks they can earn and sometimes how successful they are on a job. Select the best answer A B C

5 TACE Center: Region IV, a project of the Burton Blatt Institute. Funded by RSA Grant # H264A080021. © 2013 Incorrect … A vocational rehabilitation counselor assists clients in considering all the factors that need to be addressed in implementing a successful individual plan for employment. The vocational goal needs to place a person on a pathway to financial stability if employment is to be maintained. How can that occur if money is not discussed?

6 TACE Center: Region IV, a project of the Burton Blatt Institute. Funded by RSA Grant # H264A080021. © 2013 Incorrect… It is true that vocational counselors have a lot to do but that does not mean they dont include information and community resources that will assist an individual in being successful. Knowing community resources is part of the counselors job.
