2 Warm Up Elena smiles at Matt as she hops into his car for their date. On the drive, Matt turns and heads in a different direction. “Where are you going?” Elena asks. “The concert’s that way.” “Change of plans,” Matt says with a sly grin. “There’s a party on the other side of town. Some guys figured out how to get into that old abandoned house. I thought it would give us time to be alone. Elena begins to worry. She’s afraid that if she and Matt are alone, he might try to take advantage of her sexually. Write a conclusion to the story. What could Elena do to protect herself?

3 A dating relationship may be abusive if one partner is:

5 Forms of Abuse Physical – intentionally causing bodily harm or injury to another person. Emotional – attacking another person’s emotional development and sense of worth. Verbal – use of words to mistreat another person. Sexual - sexual contact forced on a person against their will. Stalking – repeatedly following, harassing, or threatening an individual.

6 Rape that occurs in dating relationships is a form of abuse
Date Rape occurs when one person in a dating relationship forces the other person to take part in sexual intercourse. Acquaintance Rape is when the attacker is someone the victim knows casually or considers a friend. (this affects male victims most often)

7 Avoiding Date Rape Avoid being alone with a dating partner you don’t trust or know well. Avoid alcohol and drugs. Be clear about your sexual limits with your dating partners. Always get your own drinks at parties; never leave them unattended. Make sure you have a way to get home. If you start feeling dizzy, disoriented tell someone you trust to take you home.

9 Wanted Ad Activity Create a wanted ad describing the kind of person and type of relationship that you want, or are looking for. Be as creative as you want. Must include: YOUR Qualities Desired qualities in partner Hobbies Interest

10 Independent Activity Design-A-Date
Create a date that includes the following guidelines: 1. Go somewhere public or group date with friends. 2. Must avoid all high risk activities (alcohol/drugs/parties/sex) 3. State your boundaries 4. Can not spend more than $50 5. No vulnerable positions alone (parked car, home alone, movies, etc). 6. Must be at least 3 hours in duration
