1 You Are the Author

2 The School Board has asked the 5th grade students to write and publish a book for parents about Internet Safety.

3 It seems that the parents’ of most students do not know much about Internet Safety . Since you have had a lot of lessons about this topic through the years, the school board feels like it would be a great idea to have the students teach the parents.

4 In order to accomplish the huge task, you are going to need to divide up into groups of 4.

5 One person in your group needs to create a Google folder in your Google Drive and share with the rest of the group.

6 The topics of each chapter of the book have already been decided for you. You can rename these chapters as wish. Acceptable Use policy at School and what it means Uses of technology and digital information consequences of inappropriate use Online Safety Password Protection CyberBullying Fair Use and Copyright Policies Plaigerism

7 Now, Divide up the chapters
Now, Divide up the chapters. Give each person in your group a chapter research. Create a Google Doc inside your group folder so that all members of your group can collaborate.

8 Create an outline of your chapter. What will your chapter titles be?
What kind of information will there be in each chapter?

9 Because of the lack of funding for this project, the school wants this to be an e-book (electronic book). The good news about this is that you can include video, images, links, anything on your pages.

10 Sites you may want to look at for research:
CyberBullying Fair Use and Copyright Online Safety Acceptable Use Other places to research: BrainPop Surf Island:

11 Once you have completed your research, you may get started creating the book.

12 Step 1: Create a Google Slideshow in your group folder.
Step 2: Most books are read vertically, not horizontally. Set-up your page to reflect this: Go to File>Page Setup>Custom> Type in 8.5 by 11 inches

13 In Google Slides, add blank pages
In Google Slides, add blank pages. Add text boxes and images and place them so that they are visually appealing. You will have resize and move the graphics around. Remember to use all the skills you have learned previously about searching for images in Google.

14 Your Book Must Include:
Theme and Title. Title Page with the all of the authors names Table of Contents Each chapter must have at least 2 pages. One video per chapter At the end of the book, you must have a page of resources for parents to go to for more information. This can simply be a list of URLs that you think will be helpful for parents. Make sure cite your sources either on each page individually or at the end of the book.

15 Last step: Go into Google Drawing and create an image for the front of your book
