Introduction and Goals
NENA 2008 Breakout Session Template Introduction and Goals The MHMR Community is a diverse and vast population. The class educates and stresses the importance of 9-1-1 Classes of 10 students attend a 1 hour class each week for 8 weeks Goals are to illustrate how to recognize emergencies, what information is needed, and how to dial 9-1-1

Classes for students are divided into eight sections
NENA 2008 Breakout Session Template Classes for students are divided into eight sections Each section is a 1 hour class due to attention span of students and volume of material covered Depending on level of students, some sections may be covered quickly while others take more time. This program is fluid enough to make allowances for both Time is built into class for coloring and other crafts to cut down on distractions during lesson time It is recommended that class size be small to allow for personal attention to students. Depending on level, no more then 10 students per class

Phase 1 Introduce Facilitator to students and discuss the students past experiences during emergencies Introduce Red E. Fox & watch 18 minute movie “The Great Adventure” Learn to dial with a book and practice phone Distribute stickers & provide students with a stuffed Red E. Fox animal

Phase 2 Tour of a Police Communications Center. This will demonstrate the process to the students of how calls are answered, dispatched, and how help will arrive A gift will be provided on this day to help students remember the process

Phase 3 What is 9-1-1? (review from previous weeks) Who will come when you call 9-1-1? (Police, Fire, and/or Ambulance) Discuss the importance of calling only in an emergency Provide a game & souvenir to reflect the lesson of the day

Phase 4 Review from previous weeks Quiz show Bingo game Coloring/Activity books and other education material (provided by the Tarrant County District) to reflect on lessons learned during past three week classes

Phase 8 Graduation - Police, Fire, Helicopter, Mounted & Ambulance units will be on site for students to view and explore, Media also cover the event Certificates, rewards, t-shirts and gifts given by Instructors and Officers in uniform to students congratulating students on completion of program Red E Fox/Cell Phone Sally on hand to take pictures with students Refreshments

Games Bingo - Large pictures illustrate emergencies Quiz show - Poster size pictures of a Police car, Fire engine, and Ambulance will be on wall. Students will draw a card and go to the picture of which authority will be able to help the situation Memory - Matching pictures will be printed on one side of a card. Students will take turns turning 2 cards over at a time until a match is made

Locating a wireless caller is hard Real life is NOT like the movies or TV Locating a wireless caller works about 91% of the time The 9% that fail will either not deliver location or deliver a bad location

USA phone numbers are 10 digits International phone numbers: May be less than 10 digits May be more than 10 digits Even if they are 10 digits require a country code If cut off you will NOT be able to call them back
