2. Shining the Light on PBIS
DJJ Implemented Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in all DJJ Facilities February, 2013.
The Implementation of Facility- Wide PBIS statewide is helping to change the culture in our facilities to a more positive environment where youth and staff are reinforced for displaying the expected behaviors posted in the facility’s local operating procedures that are established within the PBIS Framework.

3. Shining the Light on PBIS
The OPTS would like to “Shine the Light” on some of the positive events and activities taking place across the state through PBIS for youth and staff.
We are requesting a spot on the DJJ Web Page to post regular stories and photos of the events shared by Facility Directors, and PBIS Team Leaders.

4. Shining the Light on PBIS Eastman YDC Events
Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS) continues to encourage youth to display the expected behaviors outlined in the facilities behavior matrix, and modeled by staff as part of the PBIS Framework at the Eastman YDC. One recent event took place to reinforce youth who demonstrated the expected behaviors, and it gave youth who earned the opportunity to participate a chance to celebrate their fathers or other significant male role models in their life.

5. Shining the Light on PBIS Eastman YDC Events
In Honor of the Father’s Day weekend, Eastman YDC provided the opportunity through PBIS for youth to earn a special visitation with their , or other significant male role model that included a special meal of grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad, baked beans, cupcakes and punch.
In order to attend the Father’s Day program PBIS expectations were set for the youth to achieve. Youth had to remain DR free for 2 weeks and have 30 C-notes.

6. Shining the Light on Eastman YDC PBIS Events
Thirty-five youth signed up for the event but only twenty-one met the criteria for attendance, and of those twenty-one, seven of the youth had a father show up for the event. Eastman YDC will continue to use PBIS events to encourage parental involvement through special visitations, extra telephone calls, and photographs of the youth that can be sent home to their families.
Across the state when youth in DJJ facilities were polled about what types of reinforcements were most important to them, interactions with family were on the top of the list. Having a photo to send home was one of the highest desired items.
