2 How old were the men who fought?
You had to be 17 to fight That didn’t stop a lot of the young men Many of the boys were 14 when they joined, wanting to help in the fighting One boy, Ebenezer Fox, was only 12 when he joined

3 Sybil Ludington British troops attacked a town in Connecticut and were heading inland A rider went to the home of Sybil Ludington whose father was the colonel of the local militia It was late and the rider was tired so Sybil’s father told her to ride out and tell the militia that the British were coming She rode 40 miles that night telling every household to prepare

5 Elizabeth Zane Elizabeth’s settlement was attacked in 1782 by the British and their Native allies The people of the settlement had to retreat to a log fort They were able to hold off the enemy but their powder supply was dwindling Elizabeth offered to go to her house only 50 yards away to get more powder She calmly walked right passed the British who didn’t know what to do She grabbed the powder keg, wrapped it in her apron and ran back to the fort They were able to hold off the British until reinforcements arrived.
