Heat Simulations with COMSOL
Jeff Gronberg / LLNL June 26, 2007 This work was performed under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Energy by the University of California, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory under Contract No. W-7405-Eng-48.
2
Time evolution of heat distribution in beryllium
Gaussian distribution, sigma=1cm Temperature Peak 1000 C Default 300 C
3
Beryllium parameters COMSOL has a material model library
Parameters run with T during computation They match standard values at T=300 K Can be set to constants if desired
4
The relaxation timescale is in seconds
This result would argue that the conductive heat transport timescale is much longer than the bunch structure timescale
5
Next step Attempt to replicate the ANL results for the post-target window Due to an crash I need to get a copy of their talk Comsol can model moving material Simulate heat transport in the liquid metal target
