3. The Importance of the Resurrection
Like every other aspect of the doctrine of Christ, the resurrection is a pivotal truth which cannot be abandoned with a shipwreck of faith. The Old Testament prophesied the resurrection of Christ. Compare Psalm 16:9,10 with Acts 2:25-31.

5. The Reality of the Resurrection
Christ predicted His resurrection throughout His earthly ministry. (Matt. 12:39,40; 20:17-19) It is significant that even the Pharisees were cognizant of this prediction. (Matt. 27:63) Other passages include Mark 8:31; 9:9,31; 10:33,34; 14:27,28; Luke 9;22; 18:31-33; 24;1-7. It is a sad commentary on the blindness of the human heart that the disciples had these profoundly blunt prophecies and still not understand until after the resurrection. (John 2:18-22 )

The argument posed by the chief priests and put into the mouths of the Roman soldiers who guarded the tomb to the effect that the disciples had stolen the body of Jesus never gained traction for the obvious reason that if this were true, the power of Rome could have located and produced the body.

The resurrection was the basis of the apostolic message (Acts 4:33). James, the half-brother of Christ was apparently not a believer until after the resurrection. (1 Corinthians 15:7)

10. Reasons for the Resurrection
Christ arose because of who He is,
Christ arose that He might fulfill the Davidic-covenant,
Christ arose that He might become the source of resurrection life,
Christ arose that He might become the source of resurrection power,
Christ arose to be Head over all things to the Church,
Christ arose on account of Justification, and
Christ arose to the First-Fruits.

11. The Agents of the Resurrection
The resurrection of necessity is a miracle. Christ’s body was quite literally dead and became alive again. By what means? By the exercise of the power of God! Each member of the Trinity was active in the process.

Christ rose with a corporeal body as evidenced by:
The nail prints inflicted at the crucifixion – Psa. 22:16; Zec. 12:10; John 20:25-29
His body had the ability to breathe – John 20:22
The wound in his side was yet visible – John 20:25
Christ was recognizable by His disciples – John 20:16; Luke 24:13-35

13. Jesus ate real food – Luke 24:41-43
His body had a material nature which could be felt – Matt. 28:9; John 20:17
His body was visible to the natural eye – John 20:20
Jesus specifically stated that He had flesh and bone – Luke 24:39-40
“The Bible knows no other resurrection than that of the body, for the Scriptures teach implicitly that the spirit never dies but at death is in a state of separation form the body.”

14. The Implications of the Resurrection
The resurrection is much more than a point of doctrine. It accomplished and accomplishes vital functions for believers.
The resurrection is the validation of redemption (Rom. 4:25), declares the deity of Christ (Rom. 1:4), and provides the power for other resurrections.

The resurrection is the basis for Christian hope (1 Cor. 15:12-19) The resurrection was the foundational authority for the preaching of the apostles and is characteristically found in every sermon in the book of Acts. (2:24,43; 3:15, 26; 4:10; 10:40; 13;30-37; 17:31) It was the pivot point of Paul’s doctrine (Rom. 4:24,25; 6:4, 9; 7:4; 8:11; 10:9; 1 Cor. 6:14; 2 Cor. 4:14; Gal. 1:1; Eph. 1:20; Col. 2:12; 1 Thess. 1:10; 2 Tim. 2:8) The resurrection is a definitive part of the Gospel. (1 Cor. 15:1-4)

17. The resurrection provides assurance to believers of the efficacy of salvation in Christ (Acts 5:31; 3:26; 1 Pet. 1:3; John 16:7; Acts 2:33). It also assures believers that everything that is needed to live for Christ is available (Eph. 1:18-20; 4:8). Christ’s resurrection is the guarantee of our resurrection (Rom. 8:11; John 5:28,29; 6:40; Acts 4:2; 1 Cor. 15:20-23; 2 Cor. 4;14; 1 Thess. 4:14).
