Learning Outcomes By the end of this lesson you should: Be able to define the different classifications of skills. Understand the Information Processing Model. Understand the advantages of a model performer
3
Classification of Skills Task 1: Task 1: In pairs come up with definitions of: - Open/closed skills - Simple/Complex Skills - Discrete/Serial or Continuous Skills
4
Open/Closed Skills Open Skills are unpredictable. You are unable to control all the variables e.g speed, direction, power, opposition. Open Skills are unpredictable. You are unable to control all the variables e.g speed, direction, power, opposition. Closed Skills are very predictable and the variables dont change. The action is the same every time Closed Skills are very predictable and the variables dont change. The action is the same every time In pairs come up with examples of open and closed skills. Information Processing Model INPUT DECISION MAKING OUTPUT FEEDBACK

Information Processing Model Input information – this is information you receive which tells you a skill needs to be performed. Decision making – when you decide how best to perform this skill. Output – when you perform the skill. Feedback – receiving feedback on the outcome by comparing with the desired outcome.
