Welcome While we are waiting, enjoy your child’s transformation activity. Please complete the order form for your child’s class t-shirt and reading bag. Leave out the order form-only placing the payment inside the envelope. Feel free to make your class donation and leave it in the envelope to hand to the Room Representative at the end of the slide show. Check out some of the volunteer opportunities at the back table! Use the sticky note to write a love note to your child

Mathematics Mini-Lesson Common Core Strategies Independent work
Daily 5 Math Centers Hands-On Learning Number Talks Promotes problem solving and critical thinking “Would that work every time?” “Show me another way to solve the problem.” Teacher will meet with small groups of students

Report Cards Student progress will be reported with measures: 3 (consistently meeting standards), 2 (progressing toward meeting the standard), 1(minimum progress toward meeting standard) It is the expectation students will be progressing towards the standard. Summative and formative assessments I will keep summatives for my records. I will let you know how your child is doing through weekly progress reports.

Homework Homework can be found in your child’s take home binder.
Suggestions will be posted on the weekly newsletter. Homework does not need to be turned in unless your child would like to share with the class. Read 20 minutes each night. Attendance and Transportation
When a student is absent, a parent must send in a written note the following day. It cannot be over the phone or ed. Schedule appointments for after school. Changes in transportation? Please send in a note. All changes during the school day MUST go through the office. Please do not transportation changes.

Discipline and Behavior Expectations
Our Class Expectations Respect others. Follow directions the first time. Do your best. Weekly Progress Report- I will mark your child’s behavior on the progress report. Please read and sign weekly.

Help Your Child at Home Read every night
Practice addition and subtraction math facts Have an appropriate bedtime Instill responsibility Please look in his/her take-home binder each night Read the weekly newsletter Stay in communication with me when needed

Superhero of the Week Each Friday we will choose a new “superhero of the week” for the following week. This way each students will have his/her time to shine! Monday: Share the “All About Me” poster Tuesday: Share your favorite book Wednesday: Parents will write a love letter about their student and this will be read to the class Thursday: Someone special can eat lunch with your child Friday: Each child will say something nice about the “Superhero of the Week” during morning meeting

Birthdays OPTIONAL: small treat for 24 (Everything should be peanut/tree nut free. Check all ingredients!) You may drop off the treats at the front office or send them in the morning with your child-we will enjoy them during recess. If it requires cutting, please pre-cut. You also have the option to purchase a class set of birthday treats through the cafeteria. If your child has a summer birthday, we can celebrate in May. Let me know when you would like us celebrate. Please no birthday invitations at school unless there is one for every child in the class.

Parent Participation Mystery Reader: A parent, grandparent, sibling, etc. may come and read to our class! Bring a book with you to read and wait outside of the classroom for us! Communication The best way to reach me is by writing a quick note or sending an . My is Weekly Newsletters come home on Mondays and are posted on the blog Monthly Calendars are posted on the blog Weekly Progress Reports come home on Mondays Newsflash on class blog for reminders Take home binder Please check them daily. If you send a note, please remind your child to place it in the black container. I do not check take-home binders. Students are responsible for turning in notes.

A few odds and ends… You may purchase your child’s class t-shirt and reading bags tonight or send in the money by Friday. Students will wear them on field trips and big events at school. Lunch visits- Come eat lunch with us from 12:23-12:53! When you eat lunch with your child, please sit at the guest table with only your child. Please do not bring in food from restaurants. Due to guidelines set forth by the School Nutrition Program, fast food lunches and/or soda are not allowed to be brought into the lunchroom. Parents are encouraged to purchase a school lunch. Ice cream is allowed on Fridays. Money- When sending in money, please put in an envelope (ASP, lunch money, etc.) leave any permission slips out of the white envelopes. Write out my full name, Kawanna Alderson, when leaving things in the front office or my mailbox.

I’m almost done! :) Snacks- You may send a small snack for your child and a water bottle filled with water only! We don’t have a set snack time, so students may eat throughout the day. Please let me know of any extracurricular activities your child may be participating in. (sporting events, cheer/dance competitions, recitals, etc.) If my schedule permits, I would love to attend! Join P.T.A. Support the Foundation. Be involved! Subscribe to the blog- Links, Newsletter, Newsflashes, Calendar All About Me Posters are due Friday.
