3 The Parent Engagement Survey is a strategic web-based assessment tool that gauges the degree and scope of parent engagement in your school or district on six factors identified by scholars as key components of parent engagement. 4 Benefits of the Parent Engagement Survey Positive Student Outcomes. Parent engagement has been linked to increased academic performance, school attendance, student emotional well-being, and classes passed. Effective Interventions. Initiatives to increase engagement are most effective when designed based on accurate knowledge of the degree and scope of parent involvement. Strengthening Support. Actively seeking parent perspectives demonstrates that parent voice is valued, which is essential for a schools long-term viability and success. Fulfilling Requirements. Parent engagement efforts are an increasingly prominent requirement of many education agency funding sources(e.g., Title I, Race to the Top). 4

5 Survey Specifics The Parent Engagement Survey is a 29-item web-based questionnaire. 27 close-ended items 2 open-ended items Schools can add up to six additional customized items (5 close-ended items and 1 open-ended item) on any topic, at no extra cost. Parents indicate level of agreement with statements using a 5-point Likert- type response scale ranging from 1(Strongly Disagree) to 5 (Strongly Agree). Items are based on Joyce Epsteins nationally-recognized work on key family involvement strategies. Survey items result in six subscales, which correspond to six factors identified by scholars as key components of parent engagement. Parent demographic information is also collected.
