Athro’r Ardd ydw i! Rwy’n gweithio yn Amgueddfa Cymru –National Museum Wales yng Nghaerdydd. Rwy’n astudio planhigion a natur yn adran fotanegol yr amgueddfa. Rwy’n ysgrifennu i ofyn os fedrwch chi fy helpu gydag ymchwiliad natur pwysig.

5. Sut all newidiadau yn y tymheredd effeithio’r byd natur?
Edrychwch ar y gadwyn fwyd hon. Beth fyddai’n digwydd i’r gadwyn fwyd hon petai’r lindys yn tyfu ac yn hedfan i ffwrdd cyn i’r cyw gael ei eni?
A recent study of blue tits in oak forest showed that:
Oak was coming into leaf earlier
Winter moth caterpillars that feed on oak were appearing earlier
But blue tits weren’t nesting any earlier so by the time the chicks had appeared they had missed the peak of caterpillars.
Extra notes – for info in case questioned
In reality, great tits eat a variety of insect food, so they might be able to make up their losses by changing their behaviour to target other species. However scientists have shown that the overall spring peak of caterpillar abundance on oak is getting earlier, so great tits could still be missing out on the best opportunity to feed their chicks.
