2 Succession Succession is the sequence of biotic changes that regenerate a damaged community or create a community in a previously uninhabited area. There are two types of succession. Primary succession is the establishment and development of an ecosystem in an area that was previously uninhabited. Secondary succession is the reestablishment of a damaged ecosystem in an area where the soil was left intact.

4 Primary Succession In Primary Succession, areas that are completely uninhabited are susceptible to pioneer species such as Lichen and other species of low growing plants and mosses. Reestablishes damaged and changing ecosystems

7 Secondary Succession Soil is left intact, plants and animals that remain start back the process of regrowth. Low shrubs and plants start the cycle of regrowth
