Tricep Wrist Flexors Abdominals Wrist extensors Gluteus Maximus Quadriceps Hamstring Tibialis Anterior Gastrocnemius Soleus

3 Muscles of the body

4 Types of Muscle Muscles can be described as either:
Voluntary (you have control), biceps, triceps etc. Or Involuntary (we have no direct control), heart, brain, organs.

5 3 main types of muscle

6 Smooth Muscle Smooth muscle is usually an internal involuntary muscle.
It is made up of spindle shaped cells. E.g blood vessels, intestinal walls, internal organs.

7 Example

8 Cardiac Muscle Cardiac muscle is only found in the wall of the heart.
It is an involuntary muscle. Its branched fibres give it a stripped appearance.

9 Example

10 Skeletal Muscle These are external, voluntary muscles.
Such as the deltoid, quadriceps and biceps. Made up of lots of long fibres grouped together.

11 Example

12 Features of all muscles
Are controlled by nerves. Will waste away (atrophy) if not enough blood supplied to them. Will enlarge (hypertrophy) in response to increased work

13 Feature of all muscles Will return to their original size and shape after being stretched or contracted. All muscles are fed from the blood by capillaries that penetrate all the fibres
