4 David’s Troubles (1-6) Pursued by enemies (3-4) – Persecuted, crushed, driven into darkness. He is overwhelmed and distressed in spirit and heart (4) – during these times he always seeks God - when facing enemies, pray – James 5:13, Matthew 5:44, 1 Peter 5:7, Matthew 11: Instead, how often do we blame God? 6 David’s Troubles (1-6) I spread out my hands to you (6) – a sign of openness to Him, surrender My soul longs for you in a dry thirsty land (6) – a land parched and in need of nourishment – famine, fires, etc. - spiritually, a moral drought (cf. 8 David’s Request (7-12) Do not hide your face from me, lest I go down to the pit (7) His greatest fear – separation from God Is this our greatest fear? 9 David’s Request (7-12) Cause me to hear your lovingkindness in the morning, for in you I trust (8) A request to be spared An understanding of His love for us – Does His love move us to love Him? (1 John 4:17-19, 10) Cause me to know the way I should walk, I lift up my soul to You (8) Are we seeking His direction in our prayers? 10 David’s Request (7-12) Deliver me from my enemies, In You I take shelter (9) David turns to HIM rather than other sources Teach me Your will, for You are my God (10) Learn to obey Him cf. 11 David’s Request (7-12) Your Spirit is good, lead me in the land of uprightness (10) “level ground” – a desire to serve God in peace, where He is honored. Sadly, David did not see this, and neither will we! Our lives will be filled with troubles – 2 Timothy 3:12. Nowhere are we promised a smooth ride in this life. 12 David’s Request (7-12) Revive me, bring me out of trouble, for Your name’s sake (11) Let Him be the source of rekindling the flame. Cut off my enemies (12) David’s imprecatory request.
