Red Scare – the fear that communists both inside and outside America were working to destroy the American way of life.

4. House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC)
House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) – The House of Representatives investigated possible subversive activities by fascists, Nazis, and communists.

McCarthyism – extreme, reckless charges of political subversiveness.
Senator Joe McCarthy leads an investigative panel (1950 – 1954) that investigated and accused thousands of government and media employees of being communists
When he accused the top Army brass of being communists, they insisted on televised hearings, the contents of which disgusted most Americans – this spelled the end for McCarthy
