1 Hyperprolactinemia changes the sulfated glycosaminoglycan amount on the murine uterus during the estrous cycle  Regina Célia Teixeira Gomes, Ph.D., Gabriela Carolina Carozi Cristofani Maioral, M.Sc., Carina Verna, Ph.D., Marisa Teresinha Patriarca, M.D., Ph.D., Helena Bonciani Nader, Ph.D., Ricardo Santos Simões, M.D., Ph.D., Edmund Chada Baracat, M.D., Ph.D., José Maria Soares, M.D., Ph.D.  Fertility and Sterility  Volume 100, Issue 5, Pages e1 (November 2013) DOI: /j.fertnstert Copyright © 2013 American Society for Reproductive Medicine Terms and Conditions

2 Figure 1 Photomicrography of cross-sections of the female mice uterus during estrous cycle. HPrl = experimental group; Ctrl = control group; DCtr = diestrus; ECtr = estrus; MCtr = metestrus; PCtr = proestrus. Note the Ep or arrow (epithelium), L (lumen), En (endometrium), G (gland), and Myo (myometrium) staining with hematoxylin-eosin (H & E). Magnification, ×400. In addition, note the color intensity of blue reactions to Alcian Blue (indicative of GAG amounts) on the endometrium and magenta stain reactions to periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) on the glands and on the surface of the epithelium (indicative of glucose residues). Magnification, ×100. Fertility and Sterility  , e1DOI: ( /j.fertnstert ) Copyright © 2013 American Society for Reproductive Medicine Terms and Conditions

3 Figure 2 Sulfated glycosaminoglycan (GAG, blue) in female mice uterus according to the estrous cycle. (A) Each agarose gel contains one standard sample and seven samples corresponding to each animal analyzed per group (total quantified: 10 animals/phase/group). The results are expressed as micrograms of GAG/mg of dry tissue powder reported (Table 2). (B) The samples were submitted to enzymatic treatment. Each pool contains 10 samples of purified sulfated glycosaminoglycans (one pool/phase) on the left before enzyme treatment (GAG, blue) and on the right after chondroitinase ABC treatment (disappearance of CS and DS). Each agarose gel contains one standard sample, four pools (one pool/phase/Ctr group), and four pools (one pool/phase/HPrl group). Ctrl = control group; CS = chondroitin sulfate; D = diestrus; DS = dermatan sulfate; E = estrus; HPrl = experimental group; HS = heparan sulfate; M = metestrus; P = proestrus; S = standard sulfated; ¤ = standard DS; * = residues of HS. The arrow represents the direction of the electrophoretic run, from negative (−) to positive (+).
