In 2016, European guidelines for the treatment of uncomplicated M. genitalium infections have been published2. Treatment decisions and choice of suitable antimicrobials are made depending on the availability of knowledge about antimicrobial resistance in a specific patient and test-of-cure (TOC) should be a standard element of the therapeutic management. As an alternative to the extended azithromycin regimen, josamycin 500 mg three times daily for 10 days is used, particularly in Eastern European countries. After treatment failure with azithromycin and moxifloxacin, doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for 14 days can be tried, but will only eradicate M. genitalium in ∼30% of patients2. Unemo, M. & Jensen, J.
