The Water Cycle Tucker-Sophie-Chase-Maryam

2 Processes of the Water Cycle

3 Water Pollution Water Pollution: Any physical, biological or chemical change in the water quality that has an adverse effect on organisms or that makes water unsuitable for desired uses. Water can be polluted from natural sources like volcanoes and landslides as well as human activities.

4 Point and Nonpoint Sources
Point sources are fairly easy to monitor and regulate. Ex. Point sources of water pollution: Factories Power plants Sewage treatment plants Oil wells Non-point sources of pollution are more difficult to monitor, regulate, and treat in regards to water pollution because sources tend to be periodic. Ex. of Non-point sources Run-off from farm fields and feedlots Lawns Construction sites Logging areas Roads Parking lots

5 Bioaccumulation and Biomagnification
Bioaccumulation: The process by which pollutants collect in the cells and tissues of organisms Biomagnification: The increase in concentration of pollutants in tissues of organisms that are at successively higher levels of a food chain or food web Relation: Bioaccumulation at the lowest points of the food chain leads to biomagnification throughout the whole food chain. They also work together to magnify certain water pollutants in large predators
