A Sheet Unfolds “…on their way…Peter…fell into a trance…” “Behold, I see the heavens opened up and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” Acts 7:56 “As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. A Sheet Unfolds “…on their way…Peter…fell into a trance…” “Cornelius was ready. All God had to do now was prepare someone to share the gospel with him. When you look at this story you can see that it was harder to get someone prepared to witness than it was to get someone ready to listen.” James Lee

A Legal Challenge vs. 13 “A voice came to him,”
New Covenant Grace “…. Peter, kill and eat!” “…but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Acts 1:8

A Legal Challenge vs. 13 “A voice came to him,”
Old Covenant Law “…I have never eaten anything unholy…unclean.” Think of that, someone being locked in an old way of thinking so much so that they would say no to a direct command from God Himself. Pastor Jim

A Legal Challenge vs. 13 “A voice came to him,”
Old Covenant Law “…I have never eaten anything unholy…unclean.” “But the truth is that the world is not impressed by that (a list of don’ts). What non-Christians are looking for is the Christian who is able to live a life that is beyond the capabilities of the non-Christian. What impresses non-Christians is to find homes that are filled with loving acceptance of one another, a home that is characterized by warmth, joy and peace in the middle of a world where homes are falling apart on every side.” James Lee

A Liberating Command vs. 15 “…a voice came…a second time…”
Divine Authority “What God has cleansed…” “What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy.”

A Liberating Command vs. 15 “…a voice came…a second time…”
Threepeat “This happened three times…” God can get His point across, we must be willing not to ignore it when He does.

Things to Remember and Practice
When you look at this story you can see that it was harder to get someone prepared to witness than it was to get someone ready to listen.” It is time for the paradigm of the church to shift from its legalism, for church folks are like hungry-prayerful Peter here – we are proud of the list of don’ts we don’t do. God has liberated us to do this by His love – we will never win this culture if all we have is the same judgment Peter had about gentile people.
