Needs and wants Needs are things that are essential for life
E.g. Food ….. Wants are things that are nice to have and make life more enjoyable E.g. Comics…. What are our local community needs?

Who pays? We all pay for these services and facilities through TAXATION TAX = a compulsory contribution of money paid to government We pay TAX on the money we earn, on some goods (VAT) and on the property we live in. The amount we pay may depend on how much we earn, how much we spend or the value of our house Most local services are provided by our Local Council

Using our money to benefit others
Charity greeting cards, charity shop, donation tin, food bank, local farmer’s market, fair trade

The ways in which we spend our money can help people either locally or globally. We can:
choose to buy locally buy from shops/companies who pay fair wages to their workers we can support local charities by buying from their shops we can give money to charity collections or food to food banks
