1 Control and Communication
PUPIL NOTES

2 By the end of the lesson you will be able to …..
National 4 & 5 outcomes By the end of the lesson you will be able to ….. Describe how multicellular organisms gather information from the world around them

3 The human body is made of many different types of cells, tissues and organs.
A human being needs every cell, tissue and organ to function and work together to survive – they do not work independently. The “internal communication” needed to bring this about this co-operation is provided by the nervous system

4 Receptor cells detect the stimuli (hot temperature!)
Your brain processes this information. Sends a message (via another neurone) to your muscle cells to contract. As muscle contracts you bones move and the hand is withdrawal Send a message via a neurone Receptor cells detect the stimuli (hot temperature!) This is an example of internal communication between our nervous system and the rest of our body. Just one example of how different cells work together to keep us safe. Briefly go through this diagram (we’ll be coming back to this very soon!) and emphasis the different cells involved, (receptors, neurones, bone and muscle cells) and how they work together to prevent damage.

5 Control and Communication
Multi-cellular organisms are made of trillions of specialised cells that work together to ensure survival of that organism. The “internal communication” needed to bring this about this co-operation is provided by the nervous system. N5 only note
