Muscle Organization Origin – attached to the nonmoving bone
Insertion – attached to the moving bone

Muscle Types Prime Mover – Muscle causes primary movement in one direction Antagonist – Muscle moves in opposite direction Synergist – Muscle that assists the primary mover or prevents unwanted movement Paired prime movers & antagonists are often referred to as flexors & extensors.

Movement Types Flexion – decreases angle between two bones
Extension – increases angle

Movement Types Circumduction – Tracing a cone shape with a body part

Movement Types Rotation – Movement around a central axis
Adduction – Movement of the limb away from the midline. Abduction – Movement of the limb toward the midline.
